*Update* My Progress

Posted by Average Joe

So I haven’t been to talkative on here lately because my job has been consuming almost every minute of my day and any extra time I have had I had to find a way to practice. By the time I got in front of my computer I would fall asleep. Well since I last gave an update on my progress I have been to the golf simulator about 4-6 times. Each time I have averaged one or two over par on each whole. In my opinion this is good because putting and chipping into a screen is quite hard to judge. In most cases this is where I take an extra stroke or two. So hopefully when the snow finally disappears I will be par and birdie holes left and right. Since the winter weather keeps me locked inside I have practiced individual parts of my swing since I can’t make a full swing with out taking a divot out of the carpet or driving the lamp 250 yards. Basically I repeat the motions of different parts of the swing which my goal is to create muscle memorization. It has worked with the first part of the down swing. I start at the beginning of the down swing and repeat the motion of my hips controlling the first part of my down swing. This has truly helped, as I hit my irons clean and more accurately. I have also changed my grip which has helped me to add about 15-25 more yards to my drives. I used to have the “baseball bat” grip. I now have my pinkie finger overlap my index finger, but they do not interlock. This new grip stops me from holding the club as tightly causing my muscles to loosen up slightly. Which I then swing faster instead of hard resulting more distance. All in all for about a month or two of practice I feel my skills have advanced quite quickly. Once I get a round or two in on a real golf course I will know how much I have improved.
